Manchester Art Gallery better than Alton Towers!!

Manchester Art Gallery has been named a better day out than Alton Towers, it’s official (and cheaper too!)

The city centre gallery beat competition from the Staffordshire theme park to win the accolade at the Enjoy England Awards For Excellence. There are always lots of events on which are family friendly and it’s free to visit the art gallery, so why not visit?

Out of Schools Exhibition

I recently set up a link with Manchester Metropolitan University and am delighted to announce that we are taking part in their Out of Schools Exhibition – an opportunity to have work exhibited in their art gallery as part of a large project. This year’s topic was ‘collaboration’ and class 5M rose to the challenge! They created a series of windmills encompassing all their hopes and dreams on one side and a brightly multi-coloured series of school emblems on the other – representing our multicultural school and how together we can help one another to achieve our goals. The windmills were then mounted next to one another to create maximum visual impact and then surrounded by a frame. The title of the piece is ‘The Answer My Friend Is Blowing In The Wind’ inspires by the Bob Dylan Song that we used for inspiration.

Our piece along with others from schools throughout Manchester can be viewed for two weeks from  July the 2nd and is a wonderful opportunity for pupil’s work to be exhibited in a professional context and for teachers to share practice. So come along and also enjoy the family events that will be going on..make a badge, create a piece of patchwork, watch a production… All of the delights can be sampled at:

Grosvenor Building
Manchester Metropolitan University
Cavendish Street
Manchester

Examples of art in our school

It’s no secret that I love all aspects of art and design and I’m really passionate about it’s benefits.

Whether you think you’re good at art or not all of us can create something amazing with a little bit of encouragement :)

Here are some examples of work going on in our school, some of it was created in an art lesson, some of it during other lessons like history or literacy. Art is a great way of enhancing any curriculum subject!
